But hey, imagine the damp in your basement putting a damper on your holiday plans and instead of entertaining the guests, you’re caught mopping up water in your leaky house basement?

Not something that you’d like to happen, right?

So while you prepare for the holidays, remember to set aside some time to address potential issues that may cause your basement to leak this winter.  

Plumbing leaks

Are there any plumbing pipes or fixtures in your basement? Make sure to inspect them for leaks. And should you find a problem, have it fixed by a professional.

Cracks in your basement walls

You know the cracks that let in water into a basement? Big or small, have them repaired by a foundation repair company.

If the repairs are exceeding your budget, you can also plug the cracks using epoxy or sealant. But remember, this is only a short-term fix, and you must get your foundation repaired once you’re ready to make the investment.   

Clogged gutters and downspouts

Clogged or improperly installed gutters can cause water from melting ice to accumulate around your house and seep into your basement.

Check that your gutters and downspouts are properly installed and clean.  

High water-content soil

Some homes in the U.S are located in high water-table areas. As such, water from the ground can enter the basement of these homes and create moisture issues.

Now, obviously you can’t do anything about the location of your house. But what you can do is, you can apply an exterior sealant on the walls of your home foundation, which will prevent water from entering in.  

Faulty sump pump

Lastly, check if your basement sump pump is working fine. A working sump pump will prevent water from accumulating in your basement.
