Ways to Restore the Color of Faded Brick Exteriors

Brick exteriors are relatively low maintenance and have a unique aesthetic appeal. So, have you noticed that the bricks on your property have started to fade? AMN Masonry has compiled a list consisting of different methods that can help you fix the color of your faded bricks.

Try Cleaning the Bricks

Before painting the bricks, try cleaning them first to see if the color can be restored. You can use a vacuum cleaner on the bricks to get rid of the accumulated dirt. After vacuuming, try washing your brick walls with some soap and a brush to clear away the remaining dirt. Alternatively, a garden hose or a pressure washer will also do the trick.

However, if the brick stains are hard to wash off, you can put the bricks in a siloxane sealant to restore the color of the bricks or use muriatic acid to clean the stains. Be very careful when using acid-based cleaners, as, without proper knowledge and tools, you could further damage your property’s exterior. In such situations, it’s better to seek professional help for brick and stone restoration to avoid unnecessary damage and costs.

Try Painting the Bricks

You can try painting your bricks to restore their faded colors. However, before starting the painting process, you first need to wash the bricks with water while making sure that they absorb some water as well. The next step is to scrub the old paint off with a pre-paint scrubber before the water inside them dries up. After using a cleaner, you need to wait a bit for them to dry off, and then you should apply the sealant.

Now you can try painting your brick walls with a sponge brush.

Stain Those Bricks

Brick staining is similar to stone painting, but you need to use a coat or two of a concrete stain with staining. First, clean your bricks with a cleaning solution or undiluted white vinegar. Once the brick surface is prepped, apply a coat or two of the cement stain. Keep applying the stain till the color is similar to the original bricks.
